Looking Up - Looking Out

Light appears to be penetrating through or being emitted from this tree; the clouds and the stars are moving in accord with it. We may think we are looking up toward the light, but isn't the light (intelligence) beaming this vision out to us? We need to change our perspective to see as the light.

The pillar of a cloud by day encircled and protected. It gave comfort and protection as an example of true womanhood.

The pillar of fire was not land based. It gave strength to man -- to move forward and upward.

Persistent Spring

The clear white crystalline form on the left reflects the blossoming tree as if to encourage it. On the opposite side is a dark crystalline form dimly reflecting shadows of the tree as if to discourage, to disappoint. Living in a place where everything radiates light, there should be no shadows. Therefore, the shadow is illegitimate.

Understanding an idea completely often requires many steps and stages of thought. Here I was experimenting with representing these steps and stages. The outer edges of the picture are sketchy and evolve into clearer color and form toward the center, just as our eyes focus on the subject and the surrounding objects are less distinct.
