On a Rock

Age and endurance have nothing to do with life or identity. Identity is fixed.

Mountain Laurel

Walking through the forest is sometimes a maze of seemingly disconnected patterns. We catch glimpses of form only as the edges of the puzzle fit together. In our lives, we sometimes have to step back from ourselves to see how each experience creates a pattern that has added meaning and is connected with other experiences.

Startled Earth

When thought rises to a higher, nobler plane, there is sometimes an impulse that causes a great and sudden stir in one's thinking. This change breaks old barriers, turning upside down everything that we believed to be true. This picture illustrates the moment of turning.

Safe on the Edge

The senses fool us. We are safe when we steadfastly stand on the edge, dividing earth's pictures into that which is true and that which is illusive. Then we turn around.

Shore of Time

Three Stages

This painting has three layers. The front image obscures the ones that are behind it.

Each layer represents a stage of thought. When we move caution out of the way, we find restoration and pleasant places. The substance behind these things is light (understanding).

Promise

A promise is a prophecy and a commitment with most of the details still undetermined. There are two subjects here - the white, pure flower and the circle of light illuminating the space. Both are required. Which fulfills the promise?

What Mary Saw

The world looked at Jesus' tomb and saw a dead man, a lost cause, abject poverty. The Magdalene saw the beginning of a promise fulfilled.

Turn Ye

It is believed that some sunflowers naturally turn and face the sun. Here, in the early dawn, only one flower has felt the light and turned. Truth patiently waits for us to feel its warmth and turn.
